SEIU Reacts to Governor Wolf’s COVID-19 Mitigation Efforts

Harrisburg – Following Governor Wolf’s announcement of renewed mitigation efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, the SEIU Pennsylvania State Council released the following statement.

“On behalf of the 80,000 members of SEIU across Pennsylvania, we wish Governor Wolf a speedy and safe recovery.

“No matter what we look like, where we live, or what’s in our wallets, getting sick reminds us that at our core, we’re all human.

“Since the first COVID-19 diagnosis, certain politicians have sought to divide us — creating a false fight to distract from their own failings that have left millions of Pennsylvanians without access to healthcare, relief from job losses, or even basic protections from a pandemic that is spiraling out of control. This failure cuts across all SEIU members, whether treating COVID-19 patients in our hospitals, sanitizing our buildings, or delivering critical social services for Pennsylvanians.

“We thank Governor Wolf for doing what he has to do to keep us safe, but without relief from the federal government and cooperation from the Legislature, Pennsylvanians will never get what they need to survive this crisis and SEIU members will not be able to best serve the public.

“We need all of our leaders to act and put working families – those of every race, faith, and ZIP code – over the wealthy and powerful. We must all go together to protect our health, weather the financial storm, and secure the future for Pennsylvania.”
