HARRISBURG, (Dec. 29, 2015) – Following Governor Tom Wolf’s decision to release emergency funding while continuing the fight for a balanced budget that increases funding for education, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) issued the following statement:
“Thanks to the actions of a brave number of House Republicans, the compromise budget was one step away from the Governor’s signature. House leaders capitulated, and set off a chain of events that landed a woefully inadequate budget on the governor’s desk two days before Christmas. Governor Wolf is right to demand better from the legislature, and to demand better for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
“SEIU members have stood alongside the governor from the very beginning, hitting the streets and rallying to end the status quo of the Corbett years. We will continue to stand with the governor and call on the Legislature to return to Harrisburg and get the job done.
“Our children are depending on us to fight for them. They cannot wait another year for a budget that invests in their education and their future.”
