Gov. Wolf Stands Up For Schools, Working Families With Stopgap Veto

HARRISBURG, (Sept. 29, 2015) – In response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s veto of the Republican legislative leadership’s stopgap budget gimmick, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Service Employees International Unions (SEIU) issued the following statement:

“Gov. Wolf was right to stand up for working families and seniors today by vetoing the Republican legislative leadership’s stopgap scheme. It does nothing to fix the issues people care about most – restoring funding to public schools with a fair tax on drillers and delivering property tax relief.

“Instead of listening to the people, Republican leaders are fighting for another Corbett budget that protects drillers and maintains the status quo. The stopgap budget was simply the latest delay tactic taken from the Congressional playbook that causes gridlock in Washington, D.C.

“The people of Pennsylvania want solutions, not more of the Legislature’s political games. It’s long past time for lawmakers to engage in real negotiations with Gov. Wolf. We need a state budget that gets the commonwealth back on track.”
