House Republicans Vote Down Increased Funding for Schools, Maintain Governor Corbett’s Status Quo
Harrisburg, Pa. – This week, state House Republicans put politics above the best interests of hardworking Pennsylvanians with a budget stunt that ignores the needs of children and working families. In response, the SEIU Pennsylvania State Council issued the following statement:
“A new poll shows an overwhelming majority of Pennsylvanians support Governor Tom Wolf’s budget plan to make oil and gas companies pay their fair share to increase funding for schools. Yet, instead of focusing on ways to move our state forward, House Republicans are focused on playing political games in Harrisburg.
“Lost in the political fray is the fact that House Republicans voted down increased funding for Pennsylvania’s schools. After years of Corbett-era budgets that gutted education funding, leading to overcrowded classrooms and massive personnel cuts, the Legislature is only interested in maintaining the status quo.
“The Legislature should stop this political nonsense and start working with Gov. Wolf to pass a budget that works for working families.”
