HARRISBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania State Council of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) released the following statement tonight after the election of Tom Wolf for Governor of Pennsylvania.
“Tom Wolf’s election is a huge victory for the working families of Pennsylvania,” said Gabe Morgan, President of the SEIU Pennsylvania State Council and Pennsylvania director of SEIU 32BJ.”By voting for Tom Wolf, working people have voted to restore quality schools, create good jobs, to improve access to healthcare and to build a stronger middle class where those who work hard can afford to support their families. We congratulate Tom Wolf on his extraordinary election and we are proud of the many SEIU member who knocked on doors, made phone calls, and talked with voters in more than a dozen cities across the state to support the next governor.”
“Tonight, working families made history by rising up to defeat an incumbent governor for the first time ever in Pennsylvania.” said Neal Bisno, Secretary-Treasurer of the State Council and President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. “Pennsylvanians have sent a powerful message to Harrisburg that it’s time for an economy that works for everyone, not a few at the top. Pennsylvanians have voted for good family-sustaining jobs for all, for oil and gas companies paying their fair share, for holding mega-charities like UPMC accountable, for investing in our schools, healthcare and vital services. Working families are taking back Pennsylvania and we will not stop until we win justice for all.”
Since August, hundreds of SEIU members knocked on more than 200,000 doors and spoke about the issues to more than 60,000 voters in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Altoona, Erie, Harrisburg, Scranton, State College and many other communities.
